Hi dear readers, welcome to yet another interview with this time none other than singer Byron Williams Norway!
We may know Byron from his participation in the national song contest in Norway, MELODI GRAND PRIX, where he participated in this with the song ´TFreaky for the Weekend´, ft JOWST.
I am very honored that Byron was able to make time for a few questions!

The Interview:
1. I'm from The Netherlands, and here we don't know you very well yet. Can you briefly tell us who you are and what you do?
My name is Byron Williams jr. and live live in Fredrikstad. I work with IT, and am a singer songwriter. I was early with the Drifter’s for 3 years and then move to Norway right after. As you know, I was a contestant on the MGP for Norway and didn’t go through to the finals. But it turns out that people in Europe got to hear our song “Freaky for the weekend” anyways
2. I know you from the national song contest of Norway where you participated with the song 'Freaky for the Weekend'
First real question: Where did the inspiration came from to do something in the music industry?
Well I’ve been in the music business for over 35 years and I feel at home on stage. For me, it’s a place where I can show my soul to the world,and hope they receive the message.
3. How did your career start?
At 6 years old, I started singing in Miami for candy money. And from that age my desire to sing was born.
4. Who are your big examples or inspirations?
Music that touches you both lyrically and with feeling really inspires me.
5. Returning to the national song contest: How did you get there?
Well I was a contestant on the voice here in Norway and Jowst sent me a message in IG, saying the my performance was awesome, and I replied to him asking if we could collaborate on something exciting. And he was very interested in doing so. A year later, “Freaky for the weekend “ was born. Not only did we create this song, but 4 others that come out the 17 of February on Spotify . And as they say, the rest is history!
6. What did this period look like for you and what have you learn?
This journey was and is fantastic. What it has taught me is that when you believe in what you’re creating and work hard towards it, it’s all worth it.
7. Who did you see as your biggest competitor and why?
My biggest competitor is myself, when you put pressure on yourself and worry about what others are doing, your creativity diminishes. I try to stay focused on my journey and be gracious to others.
8. You participated with the song 'Freaky for the Weekend'. What is the song about? Can you tell that in brief?
You work hard all week and look forward to seeing the weekend, to let loose. Thereby having a great time in the weekend, freaking for the weekend
9. Do you plan to participate in the national song contest again someday?
Yes, I’ll be writing a song very soon for the national song competition. And I hope it’s excepted.
10. "Freaky for the Weekend" is a collab with JOWST. How was it to work together with JOWST?
It’s awesome, Jowst is really creative and a really great person to work with. We were able to write 4 other songs, and I hope you and your group will check them out on Spotify, the 17 of February.

11. Where would you still like to perform and why?
We would Love to perform in The Netherlands and the rest of Europe.
12. Do you have any other passions besides making music? If so, which ones?
Yes, it´s cooking
13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
On stage around Europe.
14. Do you have any tips for new artists? (Like me, haha!)
Find out who you are while performing out. I was constantly searching for myself and was able to find out who I was musically. And towards your dreams.

1. Ik kom uit Nederland, en hier kennen we je nog niet zo goed. Kun je ons kort vertellen wie je bent en wat je doet?
Mijn naam is Byron Williams jr. en ik woon in Fredrikstad. Ik werk met IT, en ben een singer songwriter. Ik heb 3 jaar bij de Drifter's gezeten en ben meteen daarna naar Noorwegen verhuisd. Zoals jullie weten, was ik deelnemer aan de MGP voor Noorwegen en ging niet door naar de finale. Maar het blijkt dat mensen in Europa toch ons nummer "Freaky for the weekend" te horen kregen.
2. Ik ken jullie van het nationale songfestival van Noorwegen waar jullie meededen met het liedje 'Freaky for the Weekend'.
Eerste echte vraag: Waar kwam de inspiratie vandaan om iets in de muziekindustrie te gaan doen?
Nou, ik zit al meer dan 35 jaar in de muziekbusiness en ik voel me thuis op het podium. Voor mij is het een plek waar ik mijn ziel aan de wereld kan laten zien, en hoop dat ze de boodschap ontvangen.
3. Hoe is je carrière begonnen?
Toen ik 6 jaar oud was, begon ik te zingen in Miami voor snoepgeld. En vanaf die leeftijd was mijn verlangen om te zingen geboren.
4. Wie zijn je grote voorbeelden of inspiraties?
Muziek die je zowel tekstueel als met gevoel raakt inspireert mij echt.
5. Terugkeren naar het nationale songfestival: Hoe ben je daar gekomen?
Nou ik was een deelnemer aan The Voice hier in Noorwegen en Jowst stuurde me een bericht op IG, waarin hij zei dat mijn optreden geweldig was, en ik antwoordde hem met de vraag of we konden samenwerken aan iets spannends. En hij was zeer geïnteresseerd om dat te doen. Een jaar later werd "Freaky for the weekend " geboren. We hebben niet alleen dit nummer gemaakt, maar ook 4 andere die 17 februari uitkomen op Spotify . En zoals ze zeggen, de rest is geschiedenis!
6. Hoe zag deze periode er voor jullie uit en wat hebben jullie geleerd?
Deze reis was en is fantastisch. Wat het me heeft geleerd is dat als je gelooft in wat je maakt en er hard voor werkt, het allemaal de moeite waard is.
7. Wie zag je als je grootste concurrent en waarom?
Mijn grootste concurrent ben ik zelf, als je jezelf onder druk zet en je zorgen maakt over wat anderen doen, vermindert je creativiteit. Ik probeer gefocust te blijven op mijn reis en genadig te zijn voor anderen.
8. Je deed mee met het nummer 'Freaky for the Weekend'. Waar gaat het liedje over? Kun je dat in het kort vertellen?
Je werkt de hele week hard en kijkt uit naar het weekend, om los te gaan. Daarbij heb je een geweldige tijd in het weekend, freaky for the weekend!
9. Ben je van plan om ooit weer mee te doen aan het nationale songfestival?
Ja, ik schrijf binnenkort een liedje voor de nationale liedjeswedstrijd. En ik hoop dat het wordt uitgezonderd.
10. "Freaky for the Weekend" is een collab met JOWST. Hoe was het om samen te werken met JOWST?
Het is geweldig, Jowst is echt creatief en een geweldig persoon om mee te werken. We hebben nog 4 andere nummers kunnen schrijven, en ik hoop dat jij en je groep ze zullen checken op Spotify, 17 februari.

11. Waar zouden jullie nog willen optreden en waarom?
We zouden graag optreden in Nederland en de rest van Europa.

Ja, het is koken
13. Waar zie je jezelf over 5 jaar?
Op het podium in heel Europa.
14. Heb je tips voor nieuwe artiesten? (Zoals ik, haha!)
Ontdek wie je bent tijdens het optreden. Ik was constant op zoek naar mezelf en kon zo ontdekken wie ik muzikaal was. En naar je dromen toe.
Ik wil Byron heel erg bedanken voor zijn tijd voor dit interview. Ik was vereerd en heb hem zeker beter leren kennen, en ik hoop jullie ook!
